Specificity of US president J. Biden's evaluativity of the Black Lives Matter protest movement in social and political discourse

Introduction. Due to the development of information and communication technologies, the impact of the media on the population has increased significantly. Journalistic discourse implements one of its main functions - the function of influence and manipulation - by referring to various means of evaluation. In this case, any object or phenomenon of reality, as well as current events, can be evaluated. Materials and Methods. This work examines the evaluative lexical-semantic units that describe the attitude of the 46th President of the United States, J. Biden, to the events of 2020 associated with the Black Lives Matter protest movement. Practical material is selected from influential American news portals. Research methods include the continuous sampling method and the method of contextual analysis. Results. In the course of the study, components of an evaluative nature were selected. An analysis was given of the purpose of evaluative tools in a particular context, and the evolution of the attitude of the English-language media to the position of J. Biden in connection with the Black Lives Matter movement was traced. Discussion and Conclusion. Based on the results of the study, a conclusion was made about the significant role of the media in shaping public opinion. The evolution of the media’s attitude to the president’s position is traced.
