The article examines the features of the image of everyday life in contemporary parish prose. Being a kind of Orthodox fiction that occupies a certain niche in the modern literary process, parish prose is more focused on introducing the reader to specific socio-cultural environment; it is characterized by a typical range of plot models, a stable system of images, and a focus on the cyclical nature of the church calendar. At the same time, this literary phenomenon has a peculiar ambivalence: it reveals the correlation between the characters and everyday life, as well as the tendency for them to overcome the familiar, natural, recognizable situations. The article analyzes the story of Archpriest Alexander Shantaev “On a Holiday” based on B. Waldenfels’ concept, according to whom in everyday life the processes of “alerting” and “overcoming everyday life” coexist. As a result, it is revealed that the characters of the story are in a situation of constantly overcoming the boundaries of the ordinary and ‘a superior everyday’ spacetime paradigms. This is facilitated by the presence in the text of the liturgical (liturgical) chronotope, as well as the motivic complex path / meeting / rite. Overcoming everyday life is revealed through the reduction of the motif of the path in the final story, the transformation of the motif of the meeting from the social to the sacred vector, giving it an additional semantic shade - related to the liturgical and ceremonial contexts.
