At the same time, the concepts of "cognitive development", "cognitive interests" and "cognitive actions", which are close to each other, are studied. The main emphasis is shifted to cognitive interest, since its influence is undeniable both on creating an atmosphere of learning and on the intensity of cognitive activity of students. As part of the pedagogical experiment, at the ascertaining stage, a questionnaire was conducted to determine motivation for studying biology, and a study of the level of development of cognitive interest among students in grades 7. At the formative stage, non-traditional forms of lessons were conducted, which primarily included the formulation of problematic issues, and at the subsequent stage of the lessons, active and interactive methods were used, combining group and individual forms of organization of educational activities. As a result of the chosen method of organizing educational activities, students' cognitive interest in the subject under study increased, which affected the results of the control stage of the experiment.
