Formation of new medical terms in the German language (the examples of SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus infection terminology)

This paper analyses mechanisms of formation of new terms in the field of medicine that have appeared in the context of the spread of a new coronavirus infection SARS-CoV-2. The authors note that vocabulary, as the most mobile part of the language system, is sensitive to changes taking place in all spheres of society. It is emphasized that these processes also affect the terminology of any field of science and technology, including medical terminology, since the terms are a member of the lexical system of the language. The authors analyze methods of formation of new medical terms, the emergence of which is associated with the emergence and spread of coronavirus infection. In conclusion, it is said that the study of methods for the formation of new lexical units, in particular, in the field of medicine, allows identifying trends and features in the development of terminology.
