The article considers functional-semantic units that present evaluation in Old Russian text. There are three types of evaluative (fr. evaluatif - estimated ) word group series offered, every series is viewed as a semantically completed segment of written language that builds an ancient text. The first type is an evaluative description that is marked with attributive structures, it reflects the reality perception by enumeration of stative features of the object that might correspond or not correspond to the ideal of evaluation. These language units are found in original and translated Chronicles, hagiographies, stories, circulations. The second type is an evaluative narrative, it reflects the reality perception in its temporal relations, that characterize the object of evaluation by means of action development or state changes with the meanings ‘make / create anything in accordance with the ideal of ’ / ‘coming out of the ideal’. The narration is composed of verbal-adverbial patterns, it is typical of stories, hagiographies, Chronicles, sermons, its content dates to sermons and didactic literatures, folk tales. The third type is an evaluative interpretation, it is marked in nominations which reflect assessment of internal essence of the object by setting its match or mismatch with ameliorative / pejorative object-the-model, it is represented in the patterns of object (phenomenon) qualification. These word group series are characteristic of hagiographies, Chronicles, sermons, stories, parables, Apocrypha, “renounced” books, dating both to the Bible and folk riddles. It is noted that in the text of Epiphanius the Wise interpretation is replaced by reasoning.
