Comparison of two methods of X-ray sensitometry

Бесплатный доступ

Background: At present in Russia there are two valid standards specifying methods of X-ray sensitometry: the industry standard OST 6-17-54-80 and the interstate standard GOST ISO 9236-12011. In these methods different techniques of exposure modulation are applied. In principle, the application of the OST method to investigation of systems with intensifying screens can result in distortion of sensitometric parameters caused by reciprocity law failure and by the intermittency effect. Aim of research - compliance checking or searching for possible correlation between sensitometric results obtained by the two methods. Materials and Methods: The investigation was carried out by comparison of X-ray sensitometric parameters obtained by the OST and ISO methods for six systems cassette/screen/film/processing. Main results: Large discrepancies in speed values determined by different methods have been revealed, without any correlation. Conclusion: The further application of the OST method for testing of systems with intensifying screens has to be restricted.
