Analysis of museum labels translation in the world's most visited museums (in Germany and Russian museums)

A foreign museum visitor is one of the most significant participants in intercultural communication with museum and its staff. In the twenty-first century, a museum's task is not only to preserve various artefacts of different peoples, cultures and epochs, but also to help a visitor to get acquainted with cultures of other communities and nations. In order to perform this task, it is necessary to translate, fully adapted and directed at the museum visitor. This article examines the translation of museum labels from German and Russian into English in some of the most famous museums in Germany and Russia.
