A Comparative Analysis of the Developing Global Cities of San Diego and Novosibirsk

This article, based on the approaches of the concept of cities as international centers of influence, conducts a comparative examination of the megalopolises of San Diego and Novosibirsk that have their suppositions and needful qualities for the international activity and the global city features formation. The research was founded on the analysis of a number of key criteria formulated in the relevant concept: indicators of intellectual product exports, the level of foreign direct investments, the infrastructure base for international trade, implementation of urban diplomacy processes, the city’s tourist appeal as well as the placement of the offices and headquarters of the companies operating on an international level. Starting from the interpretation of the comparative study results, a set of directions for the development of Novosibirsk’s international political activity on the grounds of San Diego’s successful international practicies was formulated.
