The article examines the main differences between the play "Pygmalion" by B. Show and the musical "My Fair Lady", connected both with the film adaptation of the literary work (the intermedial aspect) and with the worldview of the creators of the play and film. The conclusion is made about the development of wit and paradoxicality of Shaw's style in the film, differences in the conflict, chronotope and musicality of the film. The controversy between Shaw himself, directors, and critics about the finale of the work and the fate of the main characters is analyzed. It is proved that even in the play the social conflict gets a romantic resolution, and in the film, it generally fades into the background, being replaced by music and dancing.
