The article establishes the relationship between the formed competencies in the process of training pharmaceutical specialists at university level, the professional competencies required by the standards of the Ministry of Labor, and the presence of competencies requested by the employer. The article includes a review and study of knowledge and skills obtained during university training as compared to in-demand knowledge and expertise of pharmaceutical industry professionals. The author offers a social profile of the formed competences in the process of training of employees of pharmaceutical organizations. The analysis highlights informational and analytical competences sought after in the workplace but not formed through higher education. The author argues that these competencies go hand in hand, introducing and defining the term ‘informational and analytical competence’. The article considers the role and structure of this competence in the daily work of a pharmacy employee. Analyzing the curriculum, the author finds an overwhelming amount of studied materials and competencies that go unused in daily work driven by the existing social demand. The article calls for a reform in pharmaceutical education, based on a study of educational programs and specialized literature. Reasons for this reform include the rare frequency of retraining courses and their short duration, and the lack of modern methods of continuous training in special higher education institutions. Conclusion: the analysis of the GEF shows that graduates of pharmaceutical universities do not have the informational and analytical competence needed at the workplace, instead demonstrating partial competence in line with the Ministry of Labor’s Order on the specifics of the activities of pharmaceutical specialists. This demonstrates an urgent need for methods of fostering informational and analytical competences in the education and retraining of pharmaceutical professionals.
