The purpose of the article is to describe and systematize information on the history of the establishment and development of methods of teaching medical Latin, first introduced in 1930. Archival and retrospective methods are used. Archival documents show the scientific methodological basis of medical Latin, aimed, to introduce first year students to elementary Latin, its phonetic, grammar and syntactic structure. Later traditional methods of gymnasium education were changed. Nowadays the main task of teaching medical Latin is to lay the foundations to terminological literacy and competence for further study of specialized disciplines. The article offers details on curriculum vitae of the first heads of the Latin department and their colleges.
