Formation and development of national school of Sri Lanka in ХIX - XX centuries

The article is devoted to the history of formation and development of a national education system of Sri Lanka. Paying special attention to people education, the government of the island has achieved impressing results. Now in Sri Lanka educational institutions of all steps and levels operate, and the state is one of leaders in Asia on an indicator of literacy of the population. Along with obvious achievements in a national education system there are many problems which should be solved in the nearest future.
