The formation of lexicography in Russian linguistics

The article gives a historical analysis of development of lexicography notions in Russian linguistics. Four essential conclusions are suggested: 1) the term lexicography appeared on the Russian linguistic stage in the second half of the XIX-th century, 2) the content of the notion of the term lexicography developed in the direction from applied aspect of this linguistic unit towards theoretical one and towards the whole range of dictionaries of a particular language, 3) in the last quarter of the XX-th century lexicography steadily consolidated its position with as an autonomous branch of linguistics, 4) these days lexicography is receiving, apart from its definition, more and more attributes.
