Film Stereotypes of a Leader’s Communicative Behavior in the Soviet Era and in the Era of Globalization
The article explores the topic of "stereotypes of a leader’s communicative behavior" in diachrony. The attention is focused on the stereotypes depicted in films in the period of 1950s and in the last 25 years. The communicative behavior of a leader in the early 1950s was still influenced by the echoes of industrialization and collectivization; at the same time the "thaw" was coming, which also changed this behavior. The last 25 years have been characterized by active interaction with the West, the introduction of Western-style tactics and strategies of leadership and communicative behavior. The article aims to establish how stereotypes of the leader's communicative behavior changed during the specified periods. Films were chosen as the material for the study since, being a form of art, they reflect reality, depict it using the stereotypes of communicative behavior. Film discourse functions as a representant of key linguocultural dominants. Сinematic texts possess the ability to modulate recipients' value judgments regarding social processes, determine perceptual stereotypes, and transmit ideological frameworks. The image of a leader is constructed purposefully and designed to exert a suggestive emotional and psychological influence on the target audience. The behavioral model, including its verbal component, constitutes an integral unit of the image: speech and activity patterns are incorporated into the deliberately formed external presentation of the person. Globalization has engendered two tendencies in the communicative behavior of a leader: orientation toward Western models to enhance communication efficiency both within and outside the company; the necessity of flexibility to adapt to the evolving social and technological environment. The study has found the following to be the most striking changes: a shift from ridicule and irony to a positive image of a leader; a shift in cinematic stereotypes from negative to positive. Modern stereotypes of a leader's communicative behavior reflect discursive practices of our time: the erasing of the boundaries of subordination, friendly relations between a superior and a subordinate, the use of borrowings, neologisms.
