The arrow of time and boundary conditions in the universe in the context of science and theology

The article discusses the relationship between the problem of the irreversibility of time (the arrow of time) and special boundary conditions in the universe. The article considers the Penrose model in the substantiation of temporary irreversibility and discusses its philosophical and theological meaning. Arguments are given in favor of the fact that the problem of the irreversibility of time can hardly be solved on any metaphysical grounds, but at the same time it allows for endless scientific, philosophical and theological hermeneutics. The analysis of the given scientific model of the irreversibility of time inevitably leads to the need to refer to the theological concept of creation, from which the conclusion follows that the irreversibility of time in the universe is a constitutive element of the creation of the world from nothing. It is shown how Penrose model can be theologically extended to overcome the well-known philosophical objections to the concept of creatio ex nihilo (based on the question “why did creation not take place earlier or later?”) and to demonstrate that the irreversibility of time is immanently contained in the very logic of the creation of our world.
