In the context of global and Russian social, economic, technological, cultural and value changes, the preservation and maintenance of the cognitive health of academic staff in the Russian Federation becomes one of the urgent social and state problems. The scale of the problem of aging and the prevalence of cognitive disorders among the members of academic staff increases scientific interest in studying its various aspects by both Russian and foreign researchers. In addition, the complexity and ambiguity of the phenomenon of age-related cognitive health of academic staff determines the differentiation of theoretical approaches to its description and the search for factors that can mitigate or delay the manifestations of a negative nature. The present pilot study contributes to the solution of this problem by means of a theoretical consideration of the phenomenon of subjectivity as a resource factor in the cognitive health of the middle-aged academic staff. The analysis of scientific sources on the research problem allowed the author to determine the concept of cognitive reserve as a theoretical basis. The components, levels and main characteristics of subjectivity were established. The physiological, including cognitive, and psychological features of the body during middle age were revealed. The results of the study can be used by the psychological service of universities for the practical work of psychologists with academic staff; by teacher training units; by teacher psychologists in psychological counseling.
