The study of the image of a "stranger" in linguistics is associated with the analysis of the linguistic means that are used to express this image, as well as with the consideration of cultural and social factors affecting the perception of a "stranger". The category of " strangerness" is studied by researchers in various fields of scientific knowledge: philosophers, literary critics, cultural scientists, linguists. The study of the image of a "stranger" in linguistics can help to understand the influence of language on the formation of relations between different cultures and communities, as well as contribute to the development of mutual understanding. This article analyzes the lexical means of representing the image of a "stranger" by means of criminal jargon based on the vocabulary of the television series "Banditsky Petersburg". The image of a "stranger" in modern media discourse is one of the important aspects that reflects the complex socio-cultural and political processes in society. The author analyzes the lexical units used in the criminal environment and creating the image under study, presented in season 1 of the television series "Banditsky Petersburg". To achieve the objectives of the study, the following were used: a lexicographic method of selecting lexical units based on a continuous sample, a method of definitional analysis. 328 lexical units were selected for the study. A study aimed at identifying the features of the use of criminal jargon indicates the penetration of substandard vocabulary into the language.
