The article is a critical review of the monograph “Libya in the Arab Spring: from Revolution to Insecurity” by Prof. Ramazan Erdag, a Turkish researcher of international relations, published in English in 2017. The Turkish scholar focuses on the destiny of Libya in the conteхt of “the Arab Spring” and the related issues of domestic and international security. He makes an attempt to describe and analyze the course of events from the start of “the Arab Spring” to the moment when Libya entered the stage of a continuous smoldering conflict and the division of power among the country’s leading political forces. In the course of the description and analysis of the events, the author of the monograph touches upon various aspects of the revolutionary process: from the inner idiosyncrasies of the system established by M. Kaddafi to the role of international factors strongly affecting the outcome of the events in 2011 and further on. The author of the article makes the conclusion that R. Erdag concentrates on already well-studied historical events, phenomena and processes. Moreover, in his attempt to embrace wide chronological and territorial framework in his comparatively small monograph, R. Erdag often offers but brief presentation of the key decisive moments of the history of post-revolutionary Libya, without giving the necessary factual details. Finally, the Turkish scholar persistently avoids mentioning the political initiatives and military operations of Turkey, which sometimes prevent the sides involved in the Libyan crisis from finding a more or less acceptable compromise.
