Youth suicide as a social problem in modern Russia

The paper focuses on the problem of suicide as an important societal problem primarily determined by social factors. The problem is uncovered with help of statistical data collected globally, in whole Russia and in its separate regions. The paper provides information on existing forms of work with manifestations of the problem of suicide including its manifestations among youth. The multiagency character of suicidological service for the public is emphasized. The weaknesses of suicide prevention system in Russia are identified. It is concluded that it is necessary to further develop social programs and ways for prevention of the problem of suicide. According to the authors, the main directions of preventive measures should be early detection of suicidal risk groups, prevention of alcohol and drug abuse among population, organization of a complete set of suicidologic service offices in each region of the country. Informational availability of preventive suicidal aid is named the crucial condition for effective response to the problem.
