Согласованные определения и термины полезны в клинической и исследовательской работе. В многочастном обзоре представлены предыстория, обоснование и методология разработки и внедрения номенклатуры самоповреждающего поведения (СХ) с привлечением оценки намерения. Предложены унифицирующие термины СХ и суицидального поведения (СП) как части его континуума. В историческом разрезе освещены спорные и запутанные термины и определения; усилия по улучшению способности ясно и уверенно сообщать об элементах СП в ключевых вопросах профилактики; дальнейшие шаги в процессе разработки и внедрения стандартизированной номенклатуры и системы классификации в области суицидологии.
