The study analyzes the nature of the state and defines its specific features at the present stage of historical development. The relevance of the study is determined by the changing role of the state in the era of globalization characterized by the harmonization of sociocultural and political practices, the imposition of a single development model, and the growing crisis trends in the development of contemporary public entities. The research presents the authors’ view on the nature of the state. The state has a dual nature and shows its class and subclass character depending on the circumstances. The study reveals that an increase in the globalization trends makes the majority of modern states to be of a class nature followed by the erosion of the public service ethos and social responsibility. Nowadays, the predominance of the class nature of the state is associated with the natural weakening of the society that usually puts pressure on the state to refocus on national (subclass) needs.
