The relationship of personal anxiety with other psychosocial factors in female population (based on the who MONICAX psychosocial epidemiological study)

The aim: to determine the relationship of personal anxiety (PA), the awareness of and attitudes towards health and prevention, as well as psychosocial factors such as depression, hostility (Hs), the vital exhaustion (VE), sleep disorders, and social support (SS) in the female population aged 25-64 in the metropolis of Western Siberia (Novosibirsk). As a part of the WHO MONICA-MOPSY program a representative sample of women aged 25-64 (n=870) of one of the areas of Novosibirsk was examined. Screening was carried out according to the protocol of the WHO program "MONICA". The prevalence of the high level of anxiety (HLA) in the female population aged 25-64 was 60%. With the increase of the level of PA there a positive assessment of health status as "healthy." Women with HLA were more likely to have health complaints and believe that care about their health was not enough. Women with HLA had higher levels of stress in the workplace and at home. Among women with HLA there was a higher proportion of unsuccessfully trying to quit smoking; with increasing levels of PA the proportion of people on a diet and their physical activity were reduced. HLA is often combined with depression, high Hs and VE, sleep disturbances, and low SS.
