The paper describes the connection between the discourse ambivalence of image and “gothic” literature tradition. It is showed, that interrelation of philological tendencies and linguistic approaches is typical for the modern discoursology. This interaction becomes intensive by the complex of causes. Two causes are peculiar relevant: the verification of discourse as specific phenomenon and dynamic systematic of old tradition including the modern reflections. The characteristics of discursive manifestation of the main sign of aesthetic tradition, of ambivalence of literature image, is adequate in this cognitive situation. The ambivalent language person (ALP) is defined as person (man in language sphere) combining two polar qualities. The attention to universe status of ALP is natural. The category presuppositions of this connection are marked, and corresponding qualities of “gothic” discourse are chara cterized. Such signs as marker of ambivalence, change of stylistic, value registers, ambisemy, are systematized. The categorical presuppositions of connection between literature tradition and ambivalence of image discover on examples of science practice and system correlations. Thus, “ambivalent villain” with contradictory character and choice kindness and evil is represented in literature gothic. General ambivalence is postulated as sign of tradition. The concretization verifies the explanatory force of this connection. It coordinates with category pair “positive-negative person”. The thesis about adequate representation of two roles for complicated communicative symmetry is correct for material. Such unit is characteristic for “gothic” discourse. This manifestation of negopositivity is marked in concrete speech acts- for example person in excusive acts has two polar roles: guilty and convictor. Different aspects of characteristic in this situation correspond with epistemic prognosis. Such categorical connection founds to opinion that discourse ambivalence interrelates with “gothic” images and with the essence of “gothic” as tradition completely, peculiar and clearly.
