Deliblato Sands are a specific sandy area of aeolian origin which is surrounded from the west, north and east by loess deposits and from the south by fluvial deposits of Danube river. There are several thousand dunes here: parabolic, longitudinal, transversal and hummocks. They arose from fluvial material of the Danube valley which was blown by the south- eastern winds. Dune forming processes have been working here intermittently from last glaciation throughout the Holocene and are also taking place now. The dune field surface is currently largely co-vered by a mosaic of forests being planted here for almost 200 years, psammophilous vegetation, steppe vegetation and in the southern part-wetland vegetation. Due to its natural values, this area is protected as a “Deliblato Sands” Special Nature Reserve, and its southern part is the Ramsar site, which is a wetland is one of the main bird habitats in Europe. The Deliblate Sands area, due to its qualities and importance, meets all the conditions for the development of ecotourism.
