1917 in the history of Russia was a turning point not only for the system of power and government, but also for cultural processes, which are characterized by diversity and the search for new forms of expression. The theater as a place of communication between the authorities and society becomes the chronotope of the new time. Based on the analysis of the historiography of the problem, the author aims at the socio-cultural analysis of the development of the theatrical policy of the Bolsheviks on the example of Saratov as one of the largest cities of the Volga region. On the basis of systematic and structural-historical research methods, the author shows the development of the theatrical culture of Saratov in the context of revolutionary transformations in Russia. The roles of D.N. Bassalygo, A.D. Skaldin, M.E. Medvedev and A.M. Room in the formation of the theatrical life of Saratov are noted. As a result of the research, the author concludes that the theatrical diversity of the city, characteristic of the first years of Soviet power in Saratov by the mid-1920s, receives its final formalization.
