Theatrical and Musical Art in Samara in the 1920s

The article deals with the history of theatrical art in Samara in the 1920s in the context of all-Russian cultural and state-political innovations. The author examines the features of the formation of the repertoire, personnel, box office policy, methods of attracting spectators to performances in classical theaters of the city and those that arose in the 1918-1920s, and identifies the transformations of theatrical institutions in the post-revolutionary period. He reveals the ways of promoting the new ideology by means of theatrical art among workers and peasants. It is shown that the theatrical and musical life of Samara in 1920s underwent significant changes: the repertoire of theaters changed, performances were oriented towards mass attendance, including through pricing policy and expansion of entertainment opportunities. However, the leading tendency was the ideologisation of the repertoire. Plays of revolutionary-ideological orientation appeared on the theatre stages, which were aimed at educating a person of the new generation.
