Introduction. The structural changes in the activities of private security squads and formation of strategies of personnel development within the Russia's National Guard troops require new technological decisions regarding personnel selection and certification. Therefore, the competency-based approach is relevant, as it comprises the models of behaviour for officers of certain positions and provides their job efficiency. The aim of the research is to develop the profiles of the position competencies for the officers of the private security guard. Materials and methods. The employed methods include: the methods of expert assessment, structured interview, J. Flanagan method of critical incidents, method of pair comparisons, methods of statistical analysis. Results and Discussion. Competency-based approach is a vital modern technology which makes it possible to tackle the tasks of combining the requirements of professional activities and management of personnel development, professional selection, certification, rotation and location of the personnel. The profiles of job competencies for the officers of private security squads were developed due to the expert assessment, these profiles being the basis for creating the models of competencies pertaining to the certain job position connected with security of objects. Conclusions. The technology of competency-based approach can be used as the means to increase the officers' performance efficiency, study the accurate perception of the profession, discover the general effective markers of the behaviour according to the officer's job position status, organize professional training aimed at performing certain functions.
