In I.A. Bunin's story Dark alleys a trope, particularly a symbol is considered as a nomination row in a text actualization but not as a single nomination. There are 1) text units that form the symbol (a row of related words but different parts of speech); 2) the stages of forming the trope (the phase of abstraction fixed to the related words of different parts of speech); 3) distribution of related words according to the speech spheres of all speech subjects, and the correlation of the primary nomination of the symbol itself to the author's speech. The semantic conditions that restrict the process of symbolizing are mentioned.
