The theme of the cultural heritage of Shakespeare in “The idea of university” by Newman

The article deals with the work “The Idea of University” by the English writer and priest J. Henry Newman from the perspective of the development of the theme of the cultural heritage of Shakespeare in the context of the book. It contains the sight of the higher education, its aims and tasks by Newman. There is observed the reference of Newman to Shakespeare and his creative work for the illustration of the considered issues by Newman, associated with teaching theology and literature and the reflection of the Newman comprehension of literature.
