Theme of family and ancestry in Buryat prose of the 1970-1980s

The theme of family and ancestry plays an important role in the prose of Buryatia. The works of Buryat writers of the 1970-1980s represented typically a model of patriarchal family; the vicissitudes of its history are inscribed in the "great history" of the country. The heroes work for the good of their native country, but in tune with the times, their private life, including family one, filled with everyday worries and trifles, turns out to be no less interesting and artistically comprehended. So, the plot of Sh.-S. Badluev’s novella "Happi- ness to you, Sydylma!" is built on the loss and acquisition of the family as a core value of human life, without which the fullness of life is impossible. The novella by Ts. Galanov and Ts.-Zh. Zhimbiev's novel "Current" represent an important component of the family theme - female images: daughter, bride, wife, mother, grandmother, etc., their fate in the war and post-war periods. D. Erdyneyev develops a theme of family and ancestry through worldview issues in his works.
