The article is devoted to the analysis of the novel of the Buryat writer Zh. Tumunov "Gold Rain" finally failed to be edited by the author and in which the war theme dominates. The Great Patriotic War is portrayed convincingly by the author, it refracts through the most of the characters’ destinies and changes some of them to a full extent. This applies to the main character of the novel – a young artist Minzhur Zhamganov, who learnt to fight, lead, appreciate and understand people at the front. Most of the novel describes the battle for Moscow through the the actions of the participants who defended the capital, and portrays their memorable images. The correlation between the behavior of the people at the front and their characters’ moral essence is traced. Alongside with the war theme, the life in the rearward in Moscow and its surroundings, in urban and rural Buryatia is being developed in the plot. In general, the novel was a successful experience of mastering the theme of war, new for the Buryat literature, that has broadened the horizons of the reality reflected by the national literature.
