Theoretical aspects and structure of military consumption

The growth of political tension in the world, military conflicts flaring up on different continents have led to an increase in defense spending and protection of their borders. Military consumption is government financing of military expenditures: for the production of weapons, ammunition, military equipment, uniforms, pay for military personnel and involved medical personnel, medicines, as well as compensation payments to families, etc. Like government spending in general, spending on military purposes and defense leads to GDP growth, since they are instruments of expansionary fiscal policy, and therefore, despite military actions, can contribute to economic growth in the country. However, not all economists share this point of view, since the alternative costs of increasing military spending are the reduction of other equally important budget articles. Therefore, the study of various aspects of military consumption becomes extremely important and relevant. In the presented article, the author highlights its characteristic features, as well as the differences from civilian consumption. It is noted that in civilian consumption, production and consumption seem to recreate each other, while in military consumption, weapons and ammunition are destroyed, which creates a new need for their production. The tasks of military consumption are related to ensuring national defense and security, so the state is called upon to effectively manage military spending to support economic growth and sustainable development goals.
