The article is devoted to the study of the relevance of the application of the local history regional component in history lessons in high school in the process of forming civil-patriotic competence. The article deals with the essence, the concept of the regional component of general historical education in the conditions of a multi-ethnic Russian society. The theoretical foundations for the implementation of the regional component in the process of teaching history at school are determined, regulatory documents are considered, which to some extent reflect the issues of teaching regional history, and the goals and objectives of historical education in the Russian multicultural society are revealed. The author presents the most effective methods and techniques for using local history material both in history lessons and in extracurricular activities.
