The article shows the theoretical and methodological features of the analysis of tourism as a global phenomenon. It highlights that the tourism services market functions as a system where tourist products are sold, and economic relationships between buyers and sellers are established. It was found that tourist services cover a wide range of activities, including transportation, accommodation and meals. They are aimed at meeting the various needs of tourists, such as business, spiritual and physiological. The study identifies that tourism possesses distinct characteristics, with the uniqueness of its products being a significant factor. Additionally, it has been found that the openness of borders is a key element driving the growth of international tourism. All this allowed us to identify several categories: international tourism; world tourism; global tourism. A comparison of domestic and international tourism has shown that domestic tourism is the movement and accommodation of the local population on its territory, while international tourism includes trips and stays of citizens abroad for less than one year for the purpose of recreation, education or participation in cultural and sporting events.
