The challenges of modern systematically developing society lead to the actualization of constant introduction of new ways and methods of developing not only professional, but also personal qualities of a person. Educational institutions as one of the subjectsof formation of versatile key skills of students should guarantee the organization of such an educational process, in which meta-skills will be acquired most effectively and continuously.The formation of students’ meta-skills as a multifaceted and multistructured process includes theoretical and pedagogical aspects and is based on appropriate methodological approaches. The construction of such a process in accordance with certain methodological components is the key to success in achieving both subject and meta-subject results.The aim of the article is to define the theoretical, pedagogical and methodological foundations of the process of formation of meta-skills in students, to consider the main and most effective from the educational point of view approaches to the organization of meta-skills orientation of learning. Problem-oriented, cross-disciplinary, participatory, personality-oriented approaches were chosen as the most effective and corresponding to the actual requirements of the educational process.
