Theory of nematic-smectic phase transition

The molecular-statistical theory of nematic-smectic phase transition and also the unified theory describing a transition from the isotropic phase into the nematic one, and then into the smectic one, or a direct transition from the isotropic phase to the smectic one, is derived. The mean-field parameters responsible for various phase sequences and for the phase transitions kinds are taken into account.
