Theoretical and practical aspects of the communication theory of power in the global network society

One of the theoretical attempts to explain the complicated world of today is the work of Spanish sociologist Manuel Castells, who has mostly focused on research about communication, information society and globalization. He published the trilogy “The Information Age: Economy, Society and Culture” in the second half of the 1990s. Then, he developed a communication theory of power and applied it through practical examples in the 21st century, through books “Communication power” and “Networks of outrage and hope: social movements in the internet age”. This article discusses key parts of his work, communication and power, also thinking about practical aspects through issues related to social movements in the global network society.
