Terminology of personality (personhood) of Early Christian fathers and teachers of the eastern church of the 2nd - early 4th centuries

The article explores terminology describing the category of personality (personhood) as understood by the Christian authors of the early Christian Eastern Church of the 2nd - early 4th centuries. Special attention is paid to the terms τάξις, χαρακτήρ, ὑπόστασις, πρόσωπον borrowed from the classical ancient philosophy as well as from the everyday ancient Greek language, the terms being used as synonyms. The terms were used in the early Christian era to describe the Persons and personal relationship in the Triunion God - the Trinity. To understand the meaning of these terms better, a brief overview of using τάξις, χαρακτήρ, ὑπόστασις, πρόσωπον in ancient philosophy is given, which makes it possible to trace the evolution of their meanings and see how they were used in the early Christian era. The conclusion is made that the idea of personality in the writings of the authors of the early Christian East Church of the 2nd - early 4th centuries was expressed through their views of the Persons and personal relationships in the triune God - the Trinity. To describe these Persons and relationship between them these authors used the terms τάξις, χαρακτήρ, ὑπόστασις, πρόσωπον, borrowed from ancient philosophy and Greek culture, with new meanings though. The terminology presented was used as the basis for the development of the ideas of personality (personhood) in the early Christian patristic period.
