Traditions of the Russian Piano School as a Methodological Basis for Teaching Foreign Piano Students at a Russian University

The article is devoted to the study of the traditions of the Russian piano school as a methodological basis for the professional training Chinese piano students at the domestic higher educational institutions. The relevance of the topic is due to the rapid growth in the number of the citizens of the People’s Republic of China applying to the musical specialties at the Russian universities, and the need to develop scientifically reasoned pedagogical approaches to their training. The author systematizes the key principles of the Russian piano pedagogy: educational process intellectualization, work on the artistic image, education of independence and development of the piano apparatus, and examines the mechanisms of their translation into a foreign-language cultural environment. Based on a comparative analysis of the Russian and Chinese piano schools, the intersection points and the pedagogical tension zones are identified. The author offers a methodological model for adapting the traditions of the Russian piano pedagogy to the teaching Chinese students. The results of this study can be used in the special piano teachers’ practice at the Russian conservatories and music universities.
