Transformation of the city in the space-time continuum: socio-cultural analysis

The author considers the problem of continuity and integrity of urban space in time on the basis of socio-cultural and historical analysis, semantic-semiotic method. The historiographical and methodological analysis of the concept of space is carried out. The author's definition of the cultural space of the city and its characteristics are given. It is shown how the place, time and external conditions affect the formation of urban space. The cultural space of the city is considered as a communicative space in which cultural codes and markers of various historical epochs are preserved. The cultural and historical epoch transforms the urban space in its linear development, preserving the emotional context of human interaction with the surrounding world. Using the examples of metropolitan and provincial cities, the author examines the elements of urban space, reveals its semantic meaning and functions, and shows the process of transformation, highlighting the general trends.
