The main emphasis is placed on the peculiarities of the embodiment of the visual sign close connection with the ethnographic motive in the work of both individual artists and in the stages of the development of fine art in the Krasnoyarsk Territory. An ethnographic motive there is considered as a sign or a synthesis of signs reflecting the uniqueness and specificity of a particular region. By the example of rock painting, as well as the works of D. T. Karatanov, A. P. Lekarenko, N. I. Rybakova and A. A. Osipova, one can trace changes in the interpretation of the visual sign «deer», but also the specificity of the ethnographic motive in the fine arts of Siberia. The transformation of an ethnographic motive over the time is able to show not only changes in the artistic process, but also new aspects of regional identity, transmitted through works of regional art.
