The article presents the findings of a sociological study examining the state of platform and remote employment in the Volgograd Region (N = 120, employing the method of semi-structured in-depth interviews, conducted as part of the grant No. 24-28-20066 “The State of the Labor Market in the Volgograd Region: Behavioral Trajectories Considering Remote and Platform Employment”). The author analyzes the content of the digitalization process as a trend in the development of the modern world, changing the order of employment in the labor market. While the theoretical framework surrounding the category of digital employment remains inadequately defined within the realm of modern labor practices, platform and remote employment are delineated as distinct categories. The article provides a comprehensive definition of the explored categories, where the salient feature of platform employment is the existence of a specialized online platform, whereas remote employment is characterized by its unequivocal adherence to a remote work format. The extent and causal factors contributing to the proliferation of platform and remote employment are examined through the lens of generational theory. Furthermore, the article presents conclusions regarding the engagement of various generational cohorts in flexible employment formats and articulates potential behavioral trajectories in the labor market of the region.
