Transhumanism as a phenomenon of modern culture (on the example of Victor Pelevin's work)

In terms of content one can observe the incorporation of transhumanism elements into the sociocultural realities of modernity. Significant in this respect fantastic images of the future are presented in Victor Pelevin’s works, which makes it possible to comprehend possible perspectives of universal culture development to the full extent. Such a worldview characterizes, on the one hand, the expanding influence of technology on the life of modern man and, on the other hand, the likening of the individual to an improved mechanism. It should be noted that the ideas of transhumanism, presented in works of fiction, mostly reflect a positive view on scientific and technological progress. It is revealed that transhumanistic literature of modernity affirms the value of material goods as an indicator of man’s success in society, presents his image as primitive and focuses on the search for a recipe for immortality only in the field of technical innovation. It is possible to speculate about transhumanism as a certain project of future cultural development, but already now the modern generation is aware of the reality of profound transformations in the understanding of man and the practice of improving their nature.
