Transposition as a way of expressing temporal and locational relations in internet news discourse

Бесплатный доступ

The article examines the phenomenon of lexical transposition as a way of intracategory and intercate-gory interaction in Internet news texts. There are a number of lexemes (a page, a wall, a window, a platform) that are able to express the values of real and virtual space within the functional and semantic category of locativity and the cor-responding zones within the functional and semantic field of the same name. The overlap of these zones occurs by means of lexical transposition based on metaphorical transfer under the influence of semantic calculus. The inter-categorical interaction of the functional-semantic categories of locativity and temporality is considered by the example of the lexemes lockdown and quarantine, which, depending on contextual conditions, are able to represent both spatial and temporal semantics. In this case, we are talking about lexical transposition based on the metonymic transfer of “space-time” and “time-space”, respectively. The result of the transposition process is a change in not only the lexical, but also the general categorical meaning of these lexemes. The lexeme lockdown with a basic spatial meaning becomes a means of representing the category of temporality, and the lexeme quarantine with a basic temporal meaning becomes a means of expressing the category of locativity.
