Three-dimensional visualization in archeology as scientific and educational resource at Novosibirsk State University: scope and confines

Purpose. Methods of three-dimensional visualization are widely used in scientific research, educational programs, cultural and entertainment, leisure fields, medicine, technical, architectural, construction projects. This direction is becoming topical in the field of preservation, research and use of the historical and cultural heritage in general, which allows to preserve in virtual form an archaeological site that is destroyed during excavation, or to present unique artifacts from the museum's funds to public. The main purpose of this publication is a general analysis of the use of new capabilities of digital technologies in archeology practice and an assessment of the experience gained in the use of three-dimensional visualization in the educational and research process at Novosibirsk State University. Results. Results, methods, ways, software in creating virtual models are diverse and their application depends on specific goals and objectives. In recent years, three-dimensional visualization of archaeological objects in the NSU has been developing within the framework of the international cooperation of the «mirror laboratory» «Interdisciplinary studies of the primitive art of Eurasia» (Russia-France), not only as a means of scientific collaboration, but also as an effective educational resource. In supplementary education, the practice of organizing and conducting scientific and practical seminars with an educational component for students and graduate students in the form of lectures and workshops is widespread. As our experience has shown, the creation of serial collections in an additional museum and educational resource in the form of an electronic museum (gallery) that any teacher and student can use is the most effective for the educational sphere. Such educational forms were have practice and presented in the materials of the few educational projects. They were organized by the laboratory in Russia, France and China in 2015-2017. Conclusion. The presentation of various projects in the three dimensional experimentations at the NSU are presented in divers forms. For example, the 3D gallery project that facilitates the organization of the museum and educational space. Next one, results of using 3D-technology in scientific research in the field of the Prehistory rock art and mobile art are presented in the scientific books and articles in high-ranking publishers. All this together contribute to the stability of the university's position in the QS ranking in the direction of «Archaeology». Such projects support effective cooperation between humanities and information technology specialists, overall, promote the positive brand of NSU as a leading scientific and educational center.
