Trends in the development of food and processing industry in the region

In the Orel region, the number of organizations engaged in the production of food products and beverages decreased in 2023 by 20.9% and 6.9%, compared with 2018. During this period, the region, up to 2022, observed a trend of growth in the total share of shipped food products and beverages in the structure of the total volume of shipped goods of manufacturing industries to 43.9%. This contributed to the activation of the development of their production, but in 2023 it decreased by 5.8 percentage points, which indicates instability. There is a trend of increasing the production volumes of cheese by 19.2 times, cream by 4 times, processed and canned fish, crustaceans and mollusks by 3.2 times, meat and edible by-products of poultry by almost 2.7 times, beef, pork, lamb, goat and meat of other animals, fresh, cooled or chilled, as well as butter by 1.8 times, beet sugar by 14.4%, canned fruits and vegetables by 5.7%. At the same time, a trend has formed of a decrease in the production of cottage cheese by 3.4 times, fermented milk products, including sour cream - by 2 times, milk (except raw) - by 1.6 times, cereals - by 17.7%, bakery products - by 12.2%, flour from grain crops, vegetables and other plant crops, mixtures of them - by 1.2%, sausages, including for baby food - by 0.2%. Almost 19.8 billion rubles were invested in the production of food products during this period, the profitability of food products sold increased by 13.9 percentage points to 19.6%, but has not yet reached the level necessary for sustainable expanded reproduction. Trends in the strategic development of the food and processing industry in the region are formed in the direction of further implementation of innovations, digitalization, including through state support, etc.
