Translation difficulties associated with selecting a translation equivalent

Despite the fact that there are several translation options for any term, the translator has to choose one or another term in order to give linguistic scientific concepts a “linguistic personality” - a term, and this problem is usually associated with the translator’s ability to choose the right option to achieve complete semantic equivalence. This work was written based on my own candidate’s thesis, as well as a master’s thesis, which was created under my scientific supervision. The article discusses the main difficulties of selecting the most appropriate units when translating from one language to another. The main problems of translation are highlighted: in particular, the presence of a wide range of correspondences that are used depending on the meaning; the absence of equivalent phonetic terms; differences in phonetic concepts of different languages. The stages of the translator's work are indicated, as well as possible ways in which he has to resort to when searching for the most accurate units.
