The process of the formation of the national professional art of the peoples of the Soviet Union was going through difficult conditions of state-building, moreover, it was necessary to know and take into account the specifics of the culture of indigenous nationalities, their mentality, and features of the traditional world view. The creation of song and dance ensembles was to demonstrate the steadily growing level of Soviet culture development. At first, such groups had the status of state, because were created under the strict control of the Communist Party and the government and performed tasks of ideological significance. The article deals with the problem of changing the status of the leading song and dance ensemble of Tuva in connection with the historical changes in the country. They led to a change in the main credo of the collective and the revision of the attitude towards folk culture culture and the search for new forms in the contemporary works of the ensemble celebrating its fiftieth anniversary.
