Motivation for Learning and the Value of Education among Youth

Introduction. Under consideration is the question of relevance of education for modern youth. The purpose is to study the quality of motivation for learning and values of education among youth. Materials and Methods. Comparative analysis of psychological and pedagogical literature, testing, survey, analysis, generalization and interpretation of the obtained data, including methods of mathematical statistics were used. Results and Discussion. Comparative data on a sample of students majoring in art, technical area, information technologies are presented. The difference in their motivations for learning is revealed. The author establishes the relationship between the value of education and motivation for learning. The change of attitude and meaning of educational and professional activity among young people occurs according to the degree of value of education for a person in this period of life, to the understanding and acceptance of education as a condition of success. Professional education is not the dominant value among modern youth, although it is included in the rank of significant ones. Conclusions. The importance of the value of education among young people is high enough and significantly influences the content of their motivation for learning. The process of formation and transformation of values depends on socio-cultural, economic and other material and technical changes and challenges of time. The system-forming influence of values on the content of motivation for learning can significantly optimize the process of developing professional and general cultural competences of students under the condition of purposeful work on forming in youth the importance of education for productive and successful life.
