Educational motivation as a factor for successful learning of Chinese language by foreign students

With China's growing global influence, more and more foreign students are learning the Chinese language. As such, improving the process of learning Chinese as a foreign language has become a key area of focus for pedagogical research. Educational motivation is the crucial factor for successful language acquisition, and a review of literature and analysis of foreign students' experiences have identified several productive combinations of motivations for learning Chinese, such as: intrinsic and instrumental, intrinsic and integrative, extrinsic and proximal, and integrative and long-term. However, with the rise of online learning, there are risks to maintaining academic discipline and student motivation. Therefore, it is necessary to study the reasons for decreased motivation in online learning environments and find effective methods to overcome this challenge in the context of digital education transformation.
